Discover how to build Axumind intake forms with text fields, file uploads, dropdowns, date pickers, validation rules, required fields, and automatic draft saving.

Collect the information your agency needs before work begins. Axumind includes a visual Form Builder that lets you create custom intake forms and questionnaires for different services, projects, and client requirements.

You can build forms using drag-and-drop fields, configure validation rules, specify which questions are mandatory, and allow clients to upload supporting files.

## Creating a New Intake Form

- Navigate to **Forms > Intake Forms** from your agency dashboard.

- Select **Create New Form**.

- Enter a name for your form.

- Use the Form Builder to add the fields you need.

- Drag and drop fields to arrange them in the desired order.

- Configure each field according to the information you want to collect.

- Review your form and save your changes.

You can create different forms for different purposes, such as project briefs, website design requirements, marketing questionnaires, and client onboarding.

## Available Form Field Types

The Form Builder supports several field types, allowing you to collect different kinds of information.

**Text Fields**

Use text fields to collect written responses from clients.

- **Single-line text:** For short answers such as company names, project titles, and contact information.

- **Multi-line text:** For longer responses such as project descriptions, business objectives, and design briefs.

**File and Media Uploads**

Allow clients to attach supporting files directly to their submissions.

This is useful for collecting brand guidelines, logos, design assets, reference documents, and other project materials.

Individual file uploads support files up to **50MB**.

You can also configure accepted file extensions for upload fields. For example, you can restrict a field to specific formats such as .pdf, .ai, .eps, .fig, or .zip.

**Dropdown and Multi-Select**

Use these fields when clients need to choose from predefined options.

- **Dropdown:** Allows the client to select an option from a list.

- **Multi-select:** Allows the client to select multiple applicable options.

These fields are useful for collecting information such as target platforms, industries, service preferences, and project requirements.

**Radio Buttons and Checkboxes**

Use radio buttons when the client should choose one option from a set of choices.

Use checkboxes when clients may select multiple options or indicate their preferences.

For example, you can ask clients which deliverable formats they need.

**Date and Milestone Pickers**

Use date-related fields to collect important project dates, deadlines, campaign launch dates, and milestone information.

**URL Fields**

Use URL fields to collect website addresses and links to external resources, such as Figma designs, Google Drive folders, and reference websites.

The field supports URL validation to help ensure submitted links follow the expected format.

## Configuring Required Fields and Validation

You can control how clients complete individual fields by configuring their field settings.

**Required Fields**

Enable the **Required** option for questions that must be answered before a client can submit the form.

Use this for essential information, such as project requirements, contact details, or mandatory supporting documents.

Avoid making optional information required unnecessarily.

**Character and Word Limits**

Configure minimum and maximum character or word counts for fields where response length matters.

For example, you can require a minimum amount of detail in a project brief or limit the length of a short description.

**File Extension Restrictions**

Configure which file extensions clients can upload to a particular file field.

This helps ensure that clients submit the formats your team expects.

**Email and URL Validation**

Use the available validation rules to check that email addresses and web links follow the expected format.

These settings help reduce incomplete or incorrectly formatted submissions.

## Automatic Draft Saving

Axumind automatically saves client responses as they complete an intake form.

Draft answers are cached in the browser's local storage, allowing clients to recover their responses if they accidentally close the browser tab.

When they reopen the intake form in the same browser, their saved responses can be restored instead of requiring them to start again.

This is particularly useful for longer questionnaires that require clients to gather information or supporting files before completing their submission.

## Building Forms for Different Services

You do not need to use the same questionnaire for every type of client engagement.

Create forms around the information required for each service or project.

For example:

- **Website design:** Collect brand information, website goals, page requirements, design references, and existing website links.

- **SEO services:** Collect target markets, website URLs, competitors, business information, and SEO objectives.

- **Brand identity:** Gather brand descriptions, preferred styles, color preferences, existing assets, and reference designs.

- **Marketing campaigns:** Capture campaign objectives, target audiences, platforms, budgets, and important dates.

Keep each form focused on the information your team needs to begin the work.

## Preparing Your Form for Clients

Before using an intake form, review its questions, field settings, and validation requirements.

Check that required fields are configured correctly, file upload restrictions match the formats you need, and the questions are easy for clients to understand.

A well-structured intake form gives clients a clear way to provide project information and helps your team begin work with the necessary context.
